SYMBIO BRANDING
My senior thesis project, Symbio, is centered around the belief that practicing sustainability can be an uplifting experience. Symbio acts as an alternative to pessimistic
climate narratives by providing a platform of climate hope and joy, where people can see and share ideas that inspire and motivate environmental activism.
The main deliverables of this project included a full brand identity (name, brand principles, color palette, typography, brandmark, photography) and a
website to host a digital magazine and user accounts. Other deliverables included social media posts, signage, and print magazine mockups.
Creating a fun and vibrant look and feel with this brand was crucial to Symbio’s mission. A problem space I indentified within my research is how sustainable brands typically feature a very muted and/or
limited color palette of browns, greens, and soft white. I wanted to use the vibrance and wide range of colors that exist in nature. Community-building is central to the Symbio platform,
so I wanted the text and shape elements to reflect that friendliness. I chose a sans serif as my typeface and organic, rounded shapes to serve as icons, borders, and boundaries.
